from your question, it seems that only weezer themselves can answer you - if no-one bought it (i didn't, but then again, i rarely buy albums), then how can anyone state why it was so fantastic (if it was)? i'm taking it you bought it and were disappointed at its performance in the album charts? weezer are a niche market group, they have a select group of fans and are not usually a group that has universal appeal. this could be part of the reason, but there are many others - i've never heard of the album - that could be down to poor promotion on behalf of the label, for example.

hope i've helped, but really only weezer can!
