VERY few people are literally 'run over'. In 1991 there were 1,651 pedestrians injured when they were hit by a bus or coach; that is three per 100,000 population per annum or, roughly, two per 1,000 people in a lifetime.
THERE are 2,000 pedestrian fatalities each year, of which approximately 250 are 'bus related', say around five per week. If we assume that the population is 50 million, then the odds (of being killed by a bus) are one in 10 million.
