Well some people are natural teachers and get a buzz out of speading their wisdom. Oh, and of course there are the credit chasers. It should have been me!!!

Can't think of any. I've been reading a lot of archived stuff though (months and months ago) and some of the prevalent answerers now were asking a lot of questions then. Personally, most of the random questions that come into my head I can answer myself with a bit of research. Perhaps this is another reason?

I've noticed that some people ask questions which have no real depth. It's not always down to quantity, sometimes quality is more important.

I have answered 4777 questions and asked 408; there are those who have answered 92 questions and asked 196; there are those who have answered 1976 and asked 631. This shows that different members place different emphasis on the site and there is no specific formula or preconception involved.

If members want to answer questions and not ask, then that is fine. The site is to exchange information but there is room to incorporate most reasons for being here as long as they accept the ethos of the site.

Perhaps there's a reason behind the question which we could all share? Do you have a hypothesis relating to the topic?

I hardly ever ask anything too - so you might be refering to me as well (though i'm not a never :)). I only ask when I realy need to know something and I can't find out for myself, a few opinion types and once in while some puzzles etc. I agree with carina in that quantity is not what is most important, some can ask loads of trivia questions that don't even require you to think so its more of a race for who can answer them first...not much point I feel.

I don't ask many because I just can't think of them. I'm okay with answers but I often steer clear of the real weighty subjects and let people who really know their stuff answer, rather than talk utter poo!

i know where i can find (most) information, but that doesn't mean i'm not going to ask - after all, that information might be useful to other people, and if i ask, it makes it more searchable on the web in general. sometimes, i'll ask opinion-related things though, cos i'm nosey and i like to see how other people think, even if i don't always agree. i think i've asked a fair amount of questions (494, compared to 3059 answers) certainly more than i thought i had in me!

it's up to people to use the site, or not, as the case may be. personally, i'd rather they stay schtum if all they're gonna do is ask homework questions otherwise...

Mostly I can find wanted information on my own , and if I can't then it happens I ask here. One of my question about an optic mystery appeared twice, but withouth any relevant answer, so the mystery is unsolved. If I think the answer to my question could be of general interest I could ask it here. It happens I ask "silly" questions to make the site less dull.

There's very rarely anything I want to know that I can't find myself, the questions and answers here that attract me to the site, are opinion-based, subject for debate, rather than academic, and as such, I pick on them as and when they arise..

..I'm certainly not a points pincher, they mean nothing on the whole apart from thinking about them sometimes arbitrates how big the dose of analgesics for my headache will need to be..

..when I have a question though, you guys will be the first to know :)

I burn my credits on things that I'm too lazy to look-up myself. There are some real search-engine experts here who can find things a lot quicker than I can. The other day I asked where I could buy a suit of armour and the answers came back quicker than I could have muddled through the internet. I certainly don't begrudge any points for people who have a real interest in researching the information available on the internet.
