Here we go again, Motorists being hit by yet another sort of stealth Tax, are we going to take much more before we do something ?

Ok reading through newspaper etc online and came across this article. N.B. i dont condone speeding of any sort, but will admit to doing it myself, But never ever in built up areas. But this is what our Goverment is now planning to do. They get enough out of us drivers as well as non drivers, so they should fork out for domestic violence themselves. here is the article, Have you Had enough ?

SPEEDING drivers who are fined in court will be forced to pay a £15 surcharge — to help victims of domestic violence.

But violent offenders who are jailed, such as murderers and rapists, won’t have to fork out.

The levy will apply only to offenders who are fined in court such as speeding motorists who challenge their penalty, said the Home Office.

Cash from the levy, which will apply from Monday, will be used to improve services for victims of crime. It is expected to raise £16million a year, including £3million to increase independent domestic violence advisers.

Home Office minister Baroness Scotland said: “We are hitting criminals in the pocket to make sure crime doesn’t pay and victims get services we want them to have.”

The move will not affect motorists who pay fixed penalty notices with no challenge.

It was slammed by motoring groups.

Paul Smith of Safe Speed said: “If they want to help victims of domestic violence, they should be suing the perpetrator, not treating the motorist as a cash cow.”

Being a Victim of crime myself, (but was to late to claim for compensation for my injuries.didnt know yu could at time.!!)
People have to wait years for their claim anyway, then its a Paultry handout. Wonder how much the goverment is going to put in their back pockets. ? .!!!!

It certanly looks like it from here, or the government is looking to price us out of our cars to the ongoing comedy canned the public transport system.

Another thing currently getting up my nose is the inposition of the 2p increase on petrol now that was supposed to happen in S.eptember

I think whoever challenges that legally would be pushing against an open door.

If this is socialism in action then I think it is depicable. I feel like reaching for my ice pick.
To paraphrase: All criminals are equal where fines are concerned except some are more equal than others especially if they are motorists.
If ever any government actually used tax revenue from motorists to improve transport, tht would be a start.
To levy extra % fines on one section of society is almost definitely against the Human Rights Act 1998.
Maybe it's time to start a motorists' political party?
Jeremy Clarkson as PM?

I believe they're now working on a completely new system of taxation.
The government will take all your money and then you can apply for a voucher when you want to buy something - like a loaf of bread.

I hope that if there is anybody fined in this way (with the £15.00 surcharge) they will have the wherewithall to contest it.
The reasoning behind the legislation is not at all acceptable but it is one of those laws that we do not get to vote on.
This smacks of putting other people's money where the treasuty's mouth is.
They probably think that the public accepts that speeding (we know it is dangerous) is as criminal as felonies etc.
I sometimes think that the government views the general public as completely brainless.

Tax Tax Tax thats all we here now, its disgusting how the motorist is constantly being punished. I would say you have the chance to vote and change things soon but its only the local elections but even if it was the general all politicians are the same, promise the earth but deliver bugger all.

We also hear gas guzzlers are going to be taxed harder, my car is not a gas guzzler but it is a people carrier and will fall into the higher road tax bracket.

Can't wait for the little scroats to knock on my door asking me to vote for them.

Always happy to see someone who asks a question but only wants answers that agree with their point of view.

What a waste of time!
