Generally you would use a wireless router however there is a way around it. Hoever you will need to ensure your Mac has a spiffy built in Airport card. To plug that baby into your cable modem or other router and then wirelessly connect to your Wii.
Yep, it's a little tricky, but here's the instructions on how to do it:
Click on System Preferences -> Sharing -> Internet
- On "Share your connections from" click from the list and choose "Built in Ethernet"
- On "to computers using" click on "Airport"
- Click on "Airport settings": call your network whatever you will and leave everything else blank
Turn off your firewall, or leave ports 28910, 29900, 29901, 29920, 80, 443 open
Turn on your Wii, go to your Wii setting and go into 'internet', 'connection settings' and enter the following information after you find your SSID (wireless access point):
Make sure you don't add a WEP code, unless you set one up previously via your own computer, then turn off the auto-obtain IP address and DNS, then manually enter:
In the Manual IP settings:
IP: 10.0.2.11
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
Default Router: 10.0.2.1
In the Manual DNS settings:
Primary DNS: 10.0.2.1
Seconday: 10.0.2.11
Now click on test connection and it should work!
Saves you on buying a wireless router if you alreay have a iBook or Macbook or other computer with a built-in airport card!
Hope this helps
