The European Commission wants EU governments to consider creating a single procedure for assessing asylum applications.

What are your views about this and what do you feel the effect of immigration policy being dictated would be for Britain

Personally i think we should take the same view that austrailia does if an immigrant wants to enter the country then he/she must have a trade that we need. I think we need to break away from the EU if we wanted to be govened by Europe we would of let the germans win the war.Im sorry if i offend anyone but that is just how i feel, my grandparents fought to give us freedom away from europe and i think we should honour all those that died in the war by keeping britain british. and by that i dont mean that we need to kick out anyone thats not british but to stay as we are, immigration is another matter.and another question i also answered.lol

I think that it would be desirable and logical, for Europe as a whole, to formulate a single, integrated policy on Immigration and Asylum.

Such a policy, would be a marked improvement, on anything dreamt up by this government to date.

No doubt such a move, can be expected to meet with opposition from the British Government, as it would challenge their slavish adherence to Machiavellian dogma.

Is that for a mental asylum? I do not mind immigration and the principle itself is fine but what is annoying is the lack of info on the individuals and then they claim benefit of our state and drive around in mercs(example).
If like most countries(canada for instance) the immigration asked how the individual would support themselves and this would become standard this would be beneficial in a number of ways. There are specific times when Standards are a solution to a bigger problem and there needs to be a united front. It is no good one country saying one thing because they will find difficulties re us.

Anything that removes imigration and asylum policy from this government can hardly make things worse can it? This government has administered an unsustainable policy.

it should be link that already, as the immigration should be managed at the port of original entry into the EU. It would be much easier if this was the case as people could just be put back over the border if they were refused entry. the system doesn't work though as people sneak into Europe (easy to do over the land border in the east) but then trave lright across Europe to England before decalring their presence. They want to come here, almost exclusively, partly because most of them speak (some) English and not any other European languages, but mostly because we treat they so well and give them benefits undreamt of in the rest of the EU. France for example put their asylum claimants into sub standard housing and treat them as badly as they deserve. therefore they don't stop there, they travel right through France without stopping. the only way a common EU policy will work will be if the other countries take the EU border seriously and stop these illegal immigrants at the first border they cross.

May I just add to this debate that the UK continuously feel hard done by because "everybody wants to come and live in the UK". In terms of asylum-seekers per 1000 inhabitants, Austria has 4.6 whereas for the UK it is just on 1 so I doubt there is much to complain about.

thats a nonsense statistic! the UK has a population of 60,776,238 so i in a 1000 is 60776 asylum seakers and Austria has a population of 8,199,783 so 4.6 per 1000 is only 37715, half the amount!

I fail to see what is nonsense about that. It simply means that there are more asylum seekers to accomodate per "indigenous" population in Austria than in the UK, i.e. the "burden" the Austrians shoulder is much higher than that of the British.
