Do you sell, throwaway, recycle or giveaway your old but usable stuff?

I only sell things like cars, but the rest I giveaway to people I know or on my local freecycle, as I don't have the time or patience to sell things to be honest.

However we had to go to the local skip/recycling yard the other day with old washing machines that go to a youth project to get repaired and I was shocked to see what people had put in the skip. I was talking to the manager and he says it is disgusting to see some people actually break things so someone else can't take it out and use it. I don't understand why people do this, but it aint the first time I have heard or seen it. A neighbour of a friend of mine does it all the time, for instance she get 2 new 3 piece suites a year and destroys the other before putting it out to be lifted by the large skips that come around once a month to remove large items.

Anyway what do you do....sell/throwaway/recycle/free cycle

If it is reasonable condition or I have no use for it any longer I ebay all my stuff. Have made around £500.00 so far and am still selling, should have enough for a nice little holiday soon.

A little of all the above, though I struck out on ebay as a medium for selling.

I give mine all to a dog charity that a friend helps to run. Haven't got the willpower to get up a 5am to sell things at a carboot, so I give it to the home because I know they will use the money wisely and unselfishly. One mans junk is another mans treasure so I never destroy anything I don't want because there is always someone else who might actually need it.

Depends on what it is - broken stuff goes in the bin or to the tip, other stuff I usually give away (I can't be bothered with the hassle of posting stuff to ebay purchasers) or stick it in the loft. I signed up for Freecycle having heard of it here (from you, I think, Sheps!). We've just had a new bathroom suite installed, and although some of the old bathroom furniture went in a skip, the bath is now headed for a field full of horses (to drink from), the shower is going in a run-down house nearby that a young couple have just moved into, and we still have two cabinets to give away. And best of all, they come and collect, so I just leave the stuff on my drive and it disappears!

I give as much to charity as i possibly can, other stuff i give to friends or family or get relitives to sell at boot markets thus recycling.
I wont just throw stuff away i think it is such waste my brother is very very rich and throws things away that puts him to shame he doesnt donate to charity nor ofer it to friends and family which i feel is wrong.

I don't have much as a deliberate policy anyway, when I have something I don't want I give it away on freecycle, often cos it's not worth much or not worth the effort to sell it. Simple living :-)

If i've been thoroughly ground down on something that's broken and rather tatty, it may end up getting thrown. :-(

Usually, I hoard all kinds of crap and rubbish, in the belief that somewhere someday i'll find a really cool use for it. ;-)

I also hate to throw things away if I can help it We give away all that we can, but fortunately we work for a company of about 3,000 people, so we can stick stuff on the internal website for next to nothing, drop it to nothing if it's not snapped up, and ask the buyer to collect. Otherwise, I give the stuff to RSPCA or the local greyhound rescue. Books...now there's something I can't part with. :)

I hardly own anything at all. Every time I move, I sell whatever is worth anything, give things to friends, clothes/towels/linen go to a charity, and whatever is too shabby goes into the bin.

Lots of stuff either gets saved up for the school fete or a charity table-top sale. Some bits I'll give away to friends who I know need it (old sofa's, computer monitors - that sort of stuff). Everything else than can be recycled gets recycled. There's always a bit to throw away, but that can't be helped.

I sell things like CDs, DVDs, or good condition books on Amazon, but everything else that can be used again I put in charity bags we get through the door. I usually put clothes in. I recently volunteered in a charity shop and found that even if they can't use the clothes, they can put them in a rag bag and still get a small amount of money for them. Same with shoes and handbags.
