The human fingers are called phalanges, they are attactched to the metacarpals & carpals, the toes are also called phalanges & are attached to the metatarsal & tarsals

Does it have to be so scientific? How about thumb, index, middle, ring, and little finger? Do those confuse anybody? Is there anything improper about those names?
