The first book in school when learning to read was called "LOOK".
The first substantial kids book I remember reading was Enid Blytons "The Far Away tree".
The first adult book I read as a kid was "Gremlins".

I can't remember a specific title. Probably something very simple, like the Mr Men or Dr Seuss - I remember they were books I liked a lot when I was about six. Or Where the Wild Things Are.

Probably don't remember exactly but what I can remember were Mr Men and the lady bird my first fairy tale books.
First substantial books were still lady bird fairy tales but with more substance. There were also these books which had the beginner version of the story which had a sentence a page and a corresponding longer version with a small paragraph which described in more detail.
I guess after that were Enid blytons - cant remember which title first - would have been faraway tree, wishing chair mr meddle or amelia jane.
- it was enid blytons/nancy drew/hardy boys till i got to the adult books from then.

Yesterday I lost a Sneaker (and found the Great Goob Sick) was one of the very first books I think. There were also the Tipsy & Tim boxset that I had (7 books, one for each day of the week, which I read over and over again), my Snow White & The Seven Dwarves Ladybird book (which was a lot darker than the Snow White stories now) and a lot of Bedtime story books & fairy tales (which I read to myself as no-one else would do it for me).

I then went on to read The Magic Faraway Tree and the Wishing Chair books when I was about 7 or 8.

My dad bought me The Lord of the Flies before I was 9 and I read it when I was 10 (I didn't understand a lot of the concepts in the book, but it became my favourite and I re-read it few more times before the age of 16)

I don't want to sound boring by repeating something I've already said in another answer - but I'm still going to!
The first book I can remember reading is Charle's Dickens "The Old Curiosity Shop" but I must have read simpler ones before that I that I can't remember.

Undoubtedly a comic book. My mother reported that I taught myself to read at age 4 or 5, so I could read the comics -- like Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse.

As I have now passed the Biblically-allotted three score and ten, I have given up the more difficult books. My reading has now reverted back to the point where I only read comics, Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse.

Can't remember. But the first book I have fond memories of is a joke book I bought from school called the "The Ha Ha Bonk Book" by Janet & Allan Ahlberg. I think it's a bit of cult kids joke book and I'm sure some people will remember it.
Great jokes, fantastic illustrations. I re-read that book endlessly and it gave me an excellent introduction into what is funny.

The first book I remember reading from cover to cover was 'Now we are six' , by Milne, which I was given for my fifth birthday. I used to devour books , so as a family, we used to troop off to the library every week. By the time I was seven I had become bored with the chldrens books, and used to get Dad to help me find adult books that were deemed 'suitable' The Saint, Sherlock Holmes, Dickens..... I wish I still had my copy of Now we are six.
