obviously a clever illusion - but an illusion nonetheless

A very good illusion, but an illusion never the less. David Copperfield used to fly around the audience (carrying a member of the audience) in his stage shows. Except once, when we went, when it had to be cancelled due to “technical problems”

I'd say that that sounds like something similar to the malted drink Horlicks
Id call it Levitation.
Although this is genuinely interesting due to the proximity of the spectators to Colin Evans, the medium, it is likely fraudulent. As I understand the medium controlled the photo flash snapshot with a switch in his left hand (see the wire). The hallway was totally dark for the seance. By the looks of the wrinkles in his clothing, particularly his trousers, he jumped from the chair and timed the flash photo to be taken at the peak of his jump. I have seen at least 2 other photos of this event from different angles that were probably taken by someone other than the medium. So far, I have not seen any historical interviews with people who actually attended the event. Their testimony would be especially interesting.
