Do you think the anticipation of an emotional event in your opinion reduces or increases the impact in the event itself or do you think it makes no difference?

For instance if you are looking forward to a happy event do you feel the anticipation reduces the emotional impact or heightens it?

I think if you get overly excited about an up coming event it can be a bit of an anti-climax if the event doesn't go the way you had planned it in your head.
Though it is always nice to have something to look forward to....

In two weeks time, i'm going to a party that will be crammed with firemen.....i'm trying not to get tooooooo excited about it ;-)

Ooh good Q, hmmm, I would have to agree with TB on some accounts in that some things can be an anti-climax.
However, that burning in the pit of your stomach kind of excitement adds to the experience. Although you can experience that without anticipation, if it's part of the waiting it enhances the actual event when it happens.

I think it partly depends on how much the event means to you.

Oh H you are the trickiest questioner:P For every possible outcome there are more questions!

The strongest factor here has to be the mental & emotional stability of the person proceeding & during the event.

If the said human is a natural born worrier then weeks before a negative or positive event can be excruciating for they will always find the negative within the positive. A person of this nature would carry on their worrisome state throughout their event as it unfolded.

On the flip side a person of unrockable stature wouldn't flacker before/during/after a similar event.

Therefore, to a worrier their state of distress would peek at some point regarding stress heightening factors but they would remain in a stressful state continually & the exact same but opposite hypothesis for the non-worriers, they would remain stress-free before/during & after said event.
