if a computer could be given an iq, what would it be?

people see computers as being very clever. but i don't think they are. so if a bog standard 2ghz pc running windows nt/2000 or equivalent, no graphics or sound card, the max ram possible without using a ramtree, 80gb hdd, standard mouse. no internet access as i know this might boost the iq. what would it's aproximate iq be compared to a dog, about 40iq a pig, about 60, a parrot, about 80, and an average human, 100-130ish.

yes i know it's a bit stupid trying to asign an iq to something with only simulated intellegence, but all answers welcome.

Basically computers are and always have been; 'as thick as 2 short planks'.

The computer must be instructed how to carry out instructions in minute detail. They are incapable of conceptual thought and learning.

Before approx. 5 Jhre said that the normal PC the IQ of a Watt worm has. (Steven Hawking)
Achievement-moderately they are already superior to us. The computer of NASA makes 4000000 decisions in one second. With intelligence the however nothing has to do.
I believe we must first times investigate which intelligence am. Up to now we can do it only fairs.
The latain word intelligentia is „insight, realization ability “, intellegere „understand “) designation in the broadest sense the ability for recognizing connections and for finding problem solutions. Intelligence knows also as the ability to be used regarded the understanding. It shows up in reasonable acting.

In the psychology intelligence is a comprehensive term for the cognitive abilities of humans to abstract thus the ability to understand and solve problems, knowledge to use and language use.

The AI´s is concerned with subsections.
1. Visual intelligence
2. Linguistic intelligence
3. Manipulative intelligence
4. Rational intelligence

On the other hand I think which we around the topic intelligence too much excitement make.
Because we are also only the product of our past.

IQ : zero.

I've never trusted IQ tests, because they only ever really check whether you think in the same way as the questioner.

But they are usually about applying commonsense, prediction or creative thinking to a previously unencountered situation.

Computers are rubbish at dealing with all of the above.

Zero, because a computer is not capable of doing anything by or for itself - all it does is carry out instructions given to it by a human. It is just a big fancy abacus, that's all.

Zero - a computer operates within the limits of the programs running on it. You can program a computer to pass an IQ test with a reasonable score (although it may trip up on some of the language stuff, but most of the other questions are usually standard in structure, if not in content), but this is not the computers intelligence passing the test, it is the programmers intelligence in coding the rules of the test
