is this a spoof?

it looks like magnets and stop motion animation to me, but it could be possible?

No, it's not a spoof.

The section that you're calling stop-frame is described as a mockup, and probably IS done doing stop-frame.

But the technology for this sort of thing is definitely under development, and the tiny robots on the table are certainly possible.
