In my view, they go hand in hand - there always seem to be some idiots that you just can't talk to. Anyone of a fundamentalist nature falls into this category as they are unwilling to admit other world views into their mentality.

*But*, you can't just go around executing fundies! Ideally you want to prevent the spread of it, and that requires good PR, not guns.

Violence begets violence! Use of force can only be just as an act of self defence. Used (or the threar of) as a negotiating tool or to force changes will never gain anything but enimity.

If children in a playground became territorial in the manner we adults do and decided to force others to bend to their will because they are wielding more power and can force them, we would find it unacceptable yet feel free to behave like this on global scale where its lives in billions which ultimately become at risk.

Yes it is.
BUT
when the other side is doing LA-LA, there's no point in farting aginst thunder.
Several key people in the Establishment at present think, for example, that we should 'talk' to the Taleban. Keep up 'dialogue' with Iran. Or do 'deals' with Putin's Russia. (Ha-ha)
This is merely naivety - what I call Wishful Unthinking Behaviour. The mad folks aren't listening. The only thing that will ever persuade them to talk BACK is a very clear sign that unless they do, they won't HAVE anything to talk with.
This sounds brutal I know. Just to confuse you, I am a pacifist in that I think ALL killing is ALWAYS wrong. But I'd rather kill somebody about to kill everyone and everything decent I care about than just wave a white flag. (All this means in practice is that after the deed,I wouldn't try and convince myself that it was 'justified'. Justifiable homicide is an oxymoron.) One simply has to accept the guilt and then get on with life.
The phrase was originally uttered by Churchill, who also said in 1940, "We will fight and continue to fight until every last vestige of the stain of Nazism has been expunged from the Earth". He was right on both occasions.

Evil runs amok while good men sit & do nothing....or sit & yacker about what they will do. We all do our utmost within our daily lives to avoid violence but there will always be a time when action is required to save the innocent. Asking others to be kind doesn't always work!

I ponder this question often, "Can we live together in harmony without ever having to resort to violence?".

If a person walked into my home, refused to leave & became an extreme danger to me & my loved ones. I would use the exact force necessary to stop me & mine from being seriously harmed. Violence at some stage within our lives will always be a reality, ergo war.

If applied to the combatants it is definitely true. If applied to politicians I'm not sure that it does any good. The Middle East is a good example : the parties involved have irreconcilable differences : the money would be better spent on a 20 ft high barrier.
