Would you Object if Schools Searched your child`s belongings?

When i was at school, if anything went missing ect, we were all told to open up our lockers and satchels ect to find out whom did what.
With Knife Crime so High and so many youngsters carrying knives, would you object if a teacher had a suspicion or was told that some-one is carrying ect?
I am all for it, am sick to death of the so called P.C. brigade sticking their oar in saying it infringes Childrens rights.
If it saves just 1 life it should be brought back with no backlash from the said child who complains his/hers humans rights as been infringed.

Or would you rather have your child stabbed to death?

There isn't much choice really is there?

It is a sad statement about the way things are going in this green and peasant land - but, in much the same way that I do not object to being searched at airports, I full endorse this as a necessary step.

We all, including children now, have to make compromises in order to protect the wider society.

When I typed in "about the way things are going in this green and peasant land" it was a serious Freudian glitch.

I had meant to key in "in this green and PLEASANT land" - no social status judgements implied or given.

I didn't know that they didn't have that right :-)

In my day, if a teacher asked you to open up your bags, you did. I don't see much of an issue.

No problem at all. We're supposed to live in a civilised society and carrying a knife is not 'civilised' at all. The only people who would have an issue with this are the 'little darlings' that are actually carrying them. It's a no-brainer, isn't it? Schools are supposed to be a safe place for children to learn and they should expect to be safe.

Some people would see this as a violation of privacy but I see it as a necessary evil anymore. I have no problem with anyone searching my seven year old's bookbag because I know that there is nothing in there that would be cause for concern. Now other children, I don't know if I could say the same for. If it keeps even one child from being hurt or exposed to something that is age-innappropriate, it is worth the trouble in my opinion.

The way I see it is the teachers are are sort of like the parental figures during school hours and we entrust them to look after out children when in their care. So as we have the right to look in our children's bags when we have our suspicions so should the teachers in order to try help insure everyone safety.

Yes children should have some privacy, but in my opinion parents concerns overrule as long as they are still children.

The school places the teaching staff "in loco parentis" (in place of the parent) this is as far as I know recognised in law.

The only time this appears to be questioned is when some idiot thinks their child should be allowed to do as it pleases. Then the human rights arguement is incorrectly persued

I think that it is a good idea, if there is nothing to hide there is nothhing to worry about and they shouldn't mind if there bags are searched or there lockers.
I do think the the school should at least inform the parents before this is done, by way of a letter in a sealed envelope so the childrenare not made aware of it. (obviously if that was possiable and it wasn't life or death and had to be done right away)
I think if this went on alittle moe in scools the might get back alittle dissaplin thatthe schools are so far lacking now a days.

They did regular bag and locker searches at my youngest daughters school, i had no problem with it, infact i was one of the parents that strongly agreed with the searches.

At the school i work in, we often have to go through their bags to find forgotton homework or look for letters from parents, we even have to check for ban items (that's sweets!!)
